Helpful Info for New Players

Little Dippers Mite Development Program (8U)

AHA’s Little Dippers Mite Development Program is designed for boys and girls ages 3 to 8-year-olds. Our goal is to provide an enjoyable and challenging environment, where skill development is celebrated. No Hockey Experience Necessary! To achieve this goal, AHA will use USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM) as a guideline. USA Hockey believes grouping players by like abilities, both in station-based practices as well as cross-ice games, leads to the greatest player development at the 8U level. Several opportunities to start are offered throughout the year. In a typical year, there will be a regular-season starting during the first week of October, a spring session starting late March to early April and a fall session starting in August. Registrations open several months prior to the start dates and are published on AHA website and social media platforms.

AHA Offers Hockey Opportunities for Older Beginners . .

Many kids in Anchorage start playing hockey before they start kindergarten but it's never too late to start having fun with the sport.  Anchorage is home to one of the largest Adult hockey leagues in the United States and many of those players began playing as adults.

We teach kids to skate while they're learning to play hockey.  We always have a large number of beginners ages 4 - 10 -- anywhere in that age range is a great time to start!   We generally have a few boys and several girls who begin the sport at ages 12 - 15 each season and, while it takes a "can-do" attitude to skate with and against players who have several years of experience, the older kids who stick with it and have some athleticism often progress very rapidly,

If you have questions about getting your son or daughter started in hockey, please call Brian Gross, AHA's Recreational Program Director, at 242-7875.
